Willmott Dixon awarded this £1.3M value project to Stephenson as part of a bigger £100M + project for the redevelopment of the grade 2 listed building Colston Hall (now known as Bristol Beacon). Stephenson's scope of works included constructing the structural concrete elements to the redevelopment of the building. Our scope of works for the project which has increased the standing capacity of this concert venue by 15%, first started 02/09/2020-15/12/2020 and has been completed between 16/06/2021-04/11/2022.

Methodology
For this project, we utilized Hanson Concrete for all our concrete pours for the works undertaken. Although our largest concrete pour was only 11.4m, the creativity and methodology of the pours were a logistic challenge in themselves.
Ischebeck Titan Falsework plus timber and ply were used for the vast majority of the works as there was little space to store materials throughout the project. Stephenson had to ensure that the materials on site were kept to a bare minimum and equipment was recycled as much as possible.
Doka Framex Formwork pans, plus timber and ply were chosen for the vertical elements of the works. Aluminium framax pans were used for the column encasements alongside traditional framex or timber and ply used for the roof beams and basement columns.
Stair and stage works were the areas that Stephenson installed edge protection on, on a temporary basis. This enabled our works to progress without interruption as these areas were enclosed with an exclusion zone in place. Once the works had been completed, Lyndon Scaffold were informed by Willmott Dixon to remove our edge protection and make safe with scaffolding handrails.
This was a very challenging job logistically as most of the works undertaken were inside the building with no crane lifts available and no access to some of the working locations. Where Stephenson were able use the crane or concrete pump, it was, however some of the concrete pours had to be undertaken with Morta tubs, wheelbarrows and manual handling as there was no other way.
